In Conversation with Counselors

Yesterday, I was having lunch with a group of counsellors, and this topic came up.

As both a Counsellor and a Business Growth Strategist, I could completely relate to what they were saying. Many incredible professionals struggle not because they lack expertise, but because they haven’t been taught how to build visibility, authority and a sustainable practice.

No matter how skilled you are, people can only seek your help if they know you exist, understand what you do, and trust you enough to reach out.

Here are 5 things I’d recommend doing immediately:

✔️ Educate your audience in simple language so they recognise when they need professional help.

✔️ Share practical insights and real experiences consistently. Trust is built long before someone books a session.

✔️ Make it easy for people to reach you—a professional website, testimonials, online booking and clear contact options.

✔️ Build meaningful referral relationships with psychiatrists, doctors, schools, HR professionals, coaches and fellow therapists.

✔️ Put simple systems in place for follow-ups, lead management and appointments so no enquiry gets lost.

Being a great counsellor is one part of the journey.

Building a practicConversatione where the right people can find, trust and reach you is the other.
